Denim on Denim
What's better than denim? Denim layered on more denim!
Denim styles continue to evolve over the years, but they are essentially being tweaked and recycled. Which is a great thing for someone who loves denim but is also trying to buy less. The jeans and tee combo will forever be my daily uniform. But finding fresh ways to wear denim is important, especially when you find yourself in a rut. With monochromatic dressing all the rage, denim on denim feels modern and maybe even a little edgy. And who doesn't need a bit of edge in their lives?
The coolest thing I discovered about denim on denim is that there are endless looks you can achieve through styling and remixing. Using oversized, faded, or distressed denim, and layering various denim shades gives you a more casual look, while matching darker and more tailored pieces gives you the foundation for a more polished look. And as you'll see, I played with the clothes a lot to squeeze out more variations--buttoning up blouses, fastening jackets, rolling sleeves, raising collars, and tucking tops.
To keep your denim on denim looks from feeling too rustic (unless that's your jam, then by all means--embrace!), focus on incorporating some tailored, feminine, or elevated pieces, like a blazer, blouse, or some booties. Adding polish to an otherwise rugged fabric can change the whole feeling of your outfit.
Basic Recipe: My Denim Pieces
-3 pairs of jeans
-1 pair of cut-offs
-1 skirt
-1 long sleeve button down
-1 duster
-1 fitted jacket
-1 sherpa-lined oversized jacket
